The Mercy House serves as a crucial hub for helping those with permanent housing problems in Washington Park and west Montgomery. As a day shelter, its primary focus is on providing immediate support and care for individuals in need, without offering overnight accommodation for those with permanent housing needs.

  • Why a Day Shelter ? By being a day shelter, it offers a place for individuals to seek refuge during the daytime when they might not have anywhere else to go. The center's primary goal is to provide support, care, and assistance to these individuals while they navigate their circumstances.

  • How does it help the community? By providing essential services and care, it aims to uplift the lives of those who are struggling, ultimately contributing to the overall well-being of the community as a whole. We recognize that transformation starts with addressing immediate needs and establishing trust with the people we serve.

  • Why build trust? Trust is fundamental to any community support initiative. By offering a safe space and essential resources, the Mercy House fosters a sense of reliability and dependability, encouraging individuals to seek assistance without hesitation.

  • Being here helps keep us in-tune with Community needs: Being in close proximity to the community allows the Mercy House to gain valuable insights into the specific needs and challenges faced by the people we serve. We are a boots-on-the-ground organization. This proximity enables us to adapt and tailor our services to effectively address the unique circumstances of the community.

  • Providing Essential Facilities: The Mercy House offers vital facilities that directly address the immediate, basic human needs of those it serves. The clothing closet ensures that individuals have access to clean and appropriate clothing, maintaining their dignity and self-esteem. The laundry/dryer units provide a means for individuals to wash and dry their clothes, promoting personal hygiene and comfort. We provide access to showers to help individuals freshen up, as well.

  • Food Pantry: Hunger is a prevalent issue among individuals facing challenging circumstances. Our food pantry helps to alleviate immediate hunger, providing individuals with nourishment and sustenance, promoting their health and stability.

  • A Springboard for Further Support: The Mercy House is not just a place of momentary relief but also a gateway to additional resources and support. By establishing trust and understanding the needs of the community, the center can effectively guide individuals towards other services and programs that can assist them in finding stable housing, employment, healthcare, or other essential support systems.
