How Sweet It Is to Be Loved by You!
As Valentine’s Day approaches, we wanted to share about the love Mercy House receives on a weekly basis. We have the most generous volunteers and donors that are excited to be a part of what God is doing on Council Street. Their love comes in many forms all of which we could not operate without. Their love is manifested through donations of food, clothing, school supplies, meals and so much more. The generosity that is poured out on Mercy House has allowed us to serve our neighbors in ways that not only meet their immediate needs but also make a way for them to have a brighter future. We rely on this generosity always knowing that the Lord will provide just enough, just in time.
God is using people every day to give and serve here. Our donors give from a heart that overflows with the need to show God how overwhelmed they are by His gift of eternal life. They understand that nothing in this life will ever matter unless it is about loving God and loving the people He has made. Ephesians 2:8-9 tells us “For by grace you have been saved through faith; and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God – not by works. So that no one can boast.” Their good deeds won’t get them into heaven but perhaps they will get someone else there.
When our neighbors see and experience the unconditional love at Mercy House, they get a glimpse of God’s grace. When they are served not out of pity but out of compassion, they experience the gospel of Jesus Christ and for many, it is the only place they may get to see the Gospel lived out. Mercy House is able to provide a haven for the homeless and a shelter in the storm. Sometimes it is helping them navigate applications for government services. Other days it may be just knowing they are seen for who they are, a child of the Most High King. But whatever the need may be, Mercy House can create an environment in which the Holy Spirit can work in even the hardest of hearts. It is in these moments that they can feel God’s presence. They can feel that at least for now, for today, things are ok. They are safe and fed and worthy and loved. Knowing you are loved for no other reason than that God made you and you are His. Please don’t miss the infinite value of knowing you are loved by God, knowledge of which Ephesians 3: 17-19 tells us brings the fullness of life and power in Christ. That knowledge is the gift that our donors and volunteers make possible.
So, we want to thank our supporters for honoring God’s urging and answering His call to support us in any way they can. We are honored to partner with true servants who know that their love sends a powerful message of hope. How sweet it is to be loved by you. Sweet indeed!
God Bless,
Pastor Ken Austin
