A “Dreamland” in West Montgomery
During COVID-19, the demands on services that Mercy House provides have increased significantly. I’m especially grateful for our team and the way they have adapted to meet these needs as resourcefully and completely as possible.
I’m also grateful for the help in meeting those needs that comes from our partners in God’s work. On April 8, 2020, our friends, the Epperson’s Sunday School Class at First Baptist Church, donated a hot lunch to the Mercy House after supporting a local business and purchasing the meal from one of our long-time partners, Dreamland BBQ.
Dreamland BBQ prepared a fantastic and delicious meal, one that strengthened and nourished the great people of West Montgomery. Dreamland’s owner, Bob Parker, also came over to Council Street and helped us serve! He wasn’t alone; County Commissioner Doug Singleton came over to the Mercy House and served this delectable lunch as well.
It is an honor to see the support this community has for the Mercy House and the ministry we lead. But even more so, it’s a testament to the generous hearts of our city’s leaders who care so much for their neighbors. We are one Montgomery, and on a Wednesday in April, we saw church, business, and government leaders working in tandem to provide and serve a meal to some very grateful people in our city who are facing poverty, hunger, and homelessness. It’s a reminder to each and every one of us that it takes us all, collaboratively, to care for our community. Using our unique skills, resources, positions, and talents to care for the vulnerable in our city brings our entire Montgomery forward, together.
And I hope it continues to include delicious BBQ ribs and fresh strawberries!
God Bless,
Pastor Ken Austin
