Centerpoint Fellowship Church Serves Business Leaders and Washington Park Community
We would like to thank and commend Centerpoint Fellowship Church for their service to Mercy House and their innovative support of local businesses. On Monday, we received a donated lunch from Centerpoint Fellowship Church, which is a blessing in and of itself, and one we’re always grateful to receive. But Centerpoint’s gift was also special in that it stimulated Montgomery’s very own local businesses. Centerpoint purchased the meal from Shane’s Rib Shack, a Montgomery owned and operated establishment, and then donated it to Mercy House.
As you know, COVID-19 is impacting our community like nothing else in recent memory. Every corner of our city is feeling its affects, and the necessary health mandates put in place to slow the spread of the illness are also slowing down the business our local restaurants usually see. That directly impacts members of our community, including the business owners, the employees, the suppliers, the partners, and more. Everyone is feeling a decrease in business at the time we are all especially dependent on the revenue it normally brings in. Montgomery has a number of local restaurants and businesses that make our city unique, and it is disheartening to think of the long-term damage this could inflict on our local favorites. Which is why when Centerpoint Fellowship Church shared their plans for buying meals from locally owned restaurants and donating them to Mercy House, we were quick to accept! We value the local establishments in this city and are grateful our local churches value them, along with the people who run and staff them, as well.
This relationship between Centerpoint and local restaurants also meets a great need at Mercy House. With the COVID-19 outbreak, our services have expanded. Before the outbreak, we would feed anywhere from 30-50 people each day for lunch. In the last week alone, we have seen this number steadily climb to 80-90 people each day. Meaning in one week, our clientele doubled. We are still at the beginning of this outbreak, and even once the peak has passed, the road to recovery will be long, so we are grateful for the generous churches, Bible studies, community groups, and individuals who are blessing Mercy House during this time.
Thank you, Centerpoint Fellowship Church, for caring for Montgomery’s businesses and people and thank you for being the church.
If you or your church would like to donate a meal or other items to Mercy House, please contact us to coordinate your generous donation.
God Bless,
Pastor Ken Austin
