2020 Giving Tuesday Just Days Away!

Can you believe we’re at the end of November?! December is just days away and so is Giving Tuesday. Giving Tuesday is a global movement to inspire and unleash generosity. It seeks to show the power of people in their giving. I think it’s a noble undertaking, but I know generosity ultimately isn’t to show the power of people. It’s to show the power of God.

Generosity flows from God. We give out of what we’ve been given. We can give love, financial support, and time to others because God has so richly blessed us with love, money, and time. The power of God stands alone, but we can honor that power with our generosity.

Giving Tuesday is an opportunity to do so intentionally. That’s all it is, an opportunity.

This year, we’ve been presented with many opportunities. We’ve been presented with opportunities to meet extravagant needs. So far, the number of lunches we’ve served in 2020 compared to 2019 has increased 639%. The number of grocery bags we’ve given out in 2020 compared to 2019 has increased 71.8%! We’ve started a reading program, a homework help program, and a Care Coordination program. We’ve adapted to COVID-19 to keep serving those in need in our community. Most importantly, we’ve shared God’s love with all who come across our doorstep.

Throughout this year, we’ve seen God’s immeasurable generosity and it’s been shown through God’s people giving and serving faithfully and in a difficult season.

If you’d like to include Mercy House in your Giving Tuesday gifts, you can make a donation online here, send a check or cash donation to P.O. Box 10036, Montgomery, AL 36108, or drop off an in-kind donation at 2412 Council Street, Montgomery, AL 36108.

We’re grateful for those who have come alongside this work and partnered with their time, talents, and treasures. This Giving Tuesday it’s business as usual on Council Street. We’ve got about 100-120 people coming to us for lunch, people coming to take showers, visit the clothing closet, and coming for groceries. Then we’ll have middle and high schoolers coming to New Walk of Life Church for homework help. And, we’ve got incredible partners showing selfless generosity.

Like I said, business as usual.

God Bless,
Pastor Ken Austin
